The Security Lieutenant provides leadership, oversight, and delegates responsibilities to Security Sergeant (shift supervisors) and Security Officer personnel.
Functions as the overall manager of administrative functions for the "shift" including time management, scheduling, communications, evaluations, and discipline.
Possess a high level of competency pertaining to emergency management, disaster planning, and crowd control.
Involved indecisions including budgetary issues, staffing, training, promotions, and the selection/hiring processes.
Possess a strong working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
Responsible for the safety and security of all Jefferson employees, students, visitors, staff and property and mitigates workplace violence in accordance with the Joint Commission, Department of Health and other regulatory and statutory requirements.
Ensures compliance to all Enterprise and department policies, procedures.
Responds to all serious incidents on campus and with the Jefferson Police and thereby take the appropriate action in accordance with Federal, State, Local and Jefferson policy.
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Supervises and evaluates Security Sergeant and Officer performance.
Assures all employees are adequately trained, properly equipped and physically fit for duty and to carry out assignments.
Coordinates and approves all reports, special assignments, attendance, days off, and in-service training.
Initiates disciplinary performance and conduct procedures for violations of conformance to Enterprise and department policy regulations.
Updates policy and procedure manuals and distributes operational and administrative communication uniformly in accordance with the chain of command.
Works with the Public Safety Department to liase and oversee the investigation and reporting on all criminal complaints and offenses committed on Jefferson property.
Ensures that sensitive information remains confidential.
Monitors CCTV, computerized access control, emergency and medical alarm systems.
Assigned to security details, VIP protection and crowd control for special events, and on-campus escorts.
Interacts with the Jefferson Police Department and law enforcement authorities having jurisdiction for special events.
Interacts with Jefferson Police, local police, District Attorney, or other law enforcement agencies relative to criminal offenses and complaints, and when subpoenaed testifies in court litigation proceedings.
Consults and advises crime victims focusing on "due process" or methods of reporting crimes to the appropriate authorities (Jefferson Police, local police, District Attorney, etc.
) and/or to initiate arrest warrants as necessary.
Provides assistance as a member of the Emergency Response Team in events such as: fires, bomb threats, explosions, or other life threatening or crime related situations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Excellent written communication and organizational skills (required).
Proficient in Microsoft, CCTV and access control systems.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
Valid Driver’s license required to work at certain Jefferson locations.
Act 235 certification required in PA.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a security/police officer, preferably in the Healthcare environment and/or Associates degree or higher with a Criminal Justice or related concentration, or two years of law enforcement or military service; and at least 3 years of previous management/supervisory experience (required).
Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson’s clinical entities or at the University.
